October 2025 Volunteer Spotlight
In this months Volunteer Spotlight, Joan B talks about her great history with PCS!
1. How long have you been a member of the Peninsula Celebrations Society?
I joined in 1982, not long after the group officially began. The early 1980’s were a time of great growth and opportunity for PCS. I was very pleased to have been a part of all that!
2. What first inspired you to join PCS?
Don Trivett, also known as Mr. Sidney, contacted me to explore getting the organization more active in the community. “Mr. Sidney” was an amazing inspiration for me. I also could tell that things for PCS were about to really take off. Being part of that was very exciting.
3. What has been your greatest achievement or proudest moment so far with PCS?
Building events to be included in the PCS calendar. I specifically remember bringing the Slegg’s Build-A-Boat into the PCS fold. Being part of those early discussions and seeing the results was an amazing achievement. And watching it expand always made me feel so proud.
4. What is your favorite PCS memory?
Being a part of the event evolution is for sure among my favorite memories. Watching Build-A-Boat grow so remarkably in those early days will always stand out as some of my favorite memories. It became such entertainment for audiences for almost 40 years and I hope it will continue to amuse the community forever. Luckily, Search and Rescue, while always on hand for the “Boaters”, have not had to intervene! So far.
5. What advice would you give to someone who is thinking about joining PCS?
You are guaranteed to really enjoy this experience. And you will meet some amazing people in this amazing community. Being a part of the ongoing event growth is such an exciting thing!
